High winds continue across Massachusetts today, but the official High Wind Warning from the National Weather Service expired at 10 a.m. The Blue Hills Observatory near Boston reported a 77 mile an hour gust early this morning, though Western Mass reported gusts closer to 40 overnight. About 40-thousand customers were without power across the state, with National Grid reporting the most outages with more than 29-thousand, including about a hundred in Northampton. Western Mass Electric reported scattered outages throughout the Valley, including Easthampton and Amherst. Downed trees are reported in many places, including a tree that fell on a power line and started smoking in Montague Center.
