High Winds Blast Western Mass

High winds continue across Massachusetts today, but the official High Wind Warning from the National Weather Service expired at 10 a.m.  The Blue Hills Observatory near Boston reported a 77 mile an hour gust early this morning, though Western Mass reported gusts closer to 40 overnight.  About 40-thousand customers were without power across the state, with National Grid reporting the most outages with more than 29-thousand, including about a hundred in Northampton.  Western Mass Electric reported scattered outages throughout the Valley, including Easthampton and Amherst.  Downed trees are reported in many places, including a tree that fell on a power line and started smoking in Montague Center.
