61-year old David Doyle of Northampton made an appearance in Hampshire Superior Court Tuesday, answering to charges of arson, kidnapping and assault with intent to murder.  He's accused of stabbing his wife in the abdomen, then shutting her in the bedroom while he tried to set their apartment on fire.  Police responded to the incident back in July at Meadowbrook Apartments.  Doyle has been in custody at Bridgewater State Hospital, and his wife says he suffers from schizophrenia.
