Easthampton schools are facing a $900,000 deficit now that the $1.4 million override question failed this week. Boosters had hoped the money would restore 19 positions and provide more funding for special ed and foreign languages at the middle and elementary schools. Two years ago voters supported a $39 million dollar debt exclusion for the high school, and many say they're now maxed out. Superintendent Nancy Follansbee says under the current scenario, job cuts are inevitable.
