Big Y Drops Holyoke Plans

Big Y Foods has abandoned its plans to build a supermarket in Holyoke.  The company cited economic conditions, increasing costs and unforeseen conditions.  The news comes as Walmart pushes ahead with plans for a super-center including groceries on Whiting Farms Road.  The plan to build a Big Y at Homestead Ave. and Lower Westfield Rd. was first introduced in 2011.
