(Deerfield, MA) — Selectmen in the town of Deerfield are cracking down on pig farmers. From now on, every piggery will get an annual inspection and a new set of rules to follow. The policy is the result of ongoing conflict between Stillwater Road pig farmer Stanley Romanowski and his neighbors at a condominium complex. Problems have centered around cleanup, fencing, storage of food, and loose pigs.
The plan, which also mandates a shift to renewable energy from coal-fired electricity, is meant to put the U.S. in a strong position at international talks in Paris later this year on reaching a deal to curb global warming.
