The IRS official who oversees tax-exempt groups has suddenly backed out of a Western Mass speaking engagement. Lois Lerner was supposed to speak at the Western New England Law School commencement in Springfield. Now she says she doesn’t want her presence to distract from the ceremony. Lerner recently told reporters she’s not good at math, when questioned about the unfolding scandal at the agency.
