Montague Man Dies in Single Car Crash

(Montague, MA) – Authorities have identified the person killed when his pickup truck struck a tree in Montague and burst into flames. The driver, 70-year old Warren Whitney was alone in the car. The vehicle struck the tree just off Route 47 at about 5:30 p.m. yesterday. Police say Montague Center firefighters were first to the scene, and had nearly put out the flames when the gas tank caught fire. Route 47 was opened a little before 11:00 PM. Police continue to investigate but say speed may have been a factor.
