(Northampton, MA) – The Northampton Community Arts Trust has closed on a 1.5 million dollar deal to buy the Universal Health and Fitness building on Hawley Street. The next step is developing plans to turn the 25-thousand square foot building into a performing arts space including a black box theater, offices, galleries and classrooms. Among the tenants will be the Northampton Center for the Arts, which lost its longtime space at the Sullivan Square building four months ago after its 30-year lease expired.
