(Southampton, MA) — An independent audit has found serious problems with municipal finance in the town of Southampton. The audit shows the town approved spending from accounts that didn’t have enough money. Payroll withholding accounts were deficient. Money from insurance payments was inappropriately put into the police and fire accounts. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Treasurer Donna Whiteley says she promises to do a better job in the future.
