(Holyoke, MA) — Holyoke is gearing up for its annual “Myriam Miranda Stop the Violence Basketball Tournament.” The event will be held Saturday in the Flats. The tournament is named after a mother of eight shot to death in 2003 while trying to break up a fight. This year there will be a block party with music, street food, and social service information tables.
The plan, which also mandates a shift to renewable energy from coal-fired electricity, is meant to put the U.S. in a strong position at international talks in Paris later this year on reaching a deal to curb global warming.
