(Amherst, MA)  —  An attempt by former Attorney General John Ashcroft to speak at UMass Amherst has been marred by hecklers.  Wednesday night as a guest of the UMass Republican Club Ashcroft abandoned his prepared remarks as a group in the audience repeatedly interrupted him, yelling out that he’s a “war criminal.”  Ashcroft engaged with the hecklers, challenging them to be more specific and calling them cowards.  After the hecklers left, Ashcroft talked about Guantanamo, Edward Snowden, President Obama, and other topics.
