Greenfield's mayor is out with a report that looks at the operations of the town's police department.  Mayor William Martin says one of his goals is to get the Greenfield police department accredited, and the 13 recommendations in the report should help move the department towards that goal.  Among the changes recommended by a consultant who is also acting as Greenfield's police chief, is that the chief's position be taken out of civil service.  The recommendations also include more training, and the elimination of the police captain position.
