Naked Man Faces Numerous Charges in Amherst

A naked man who Amherst police say may have been under the influence of drugs, faces charges of assault and battery on police officers, disorderly conduct, indecent exposure and resisting arrest.  22 year old Paul Bottom of Belmont  was arrested early Monday morning after he was found lying in the middle of North Pleasant Street near Phillips Street.  Police were called to the area shortly after midnight by someone concerned for the welfare of the man.  Authorities say when officers approached Bottom to get him out of the street, he grabbed an officer by the chin and then tried to get away, but was subdued.  Amherst police asy Bottom told them he may have used LSD prior to the incident.  The case shares some similarities to a case in Miami in which a naked man was found chewing on the face of another man.  Police there say the suspect, who was shot dead, is believed to have been under the influence of a form of LSD known as bath salts.  Authorities say the drug makes its user feel extremely hot, leading some to remove their clothing.
