UMass Trustees Approve Tuition Hike

Despite opposition from Governor Deval Patrick, the UMass Board of Trustees has voted to approve tuition and fees by nearly five percent.  Trustees also voted to freeze all fees and tuition for the 2013 and 2014 school years if the state increases its share of university funding from 45 to 50 percent.  Patrick's proposed budget contains $455 million for the five campus UMass system, which is a six percent increase over the current fiscal year.  Patrick is suggesting that the university system seek out more cost savings and efficiencies instead of raising fees.
