Explosions heard in the western part of Northampton Thursday afternoon made some residents nervous.  Officials say the explosions were cuased by a State Police bomb squad disposing of dangerous materials.  The chemicals and other possible explosives were removed from a vacant house in Springfield this week, and were detonated at a gravel pit off Ryan Road.
