Eight of the Beach Boys' children have united to form a tribute band to their famous fathers.

"California Saga" features Brian Wilson's daughters Wendy and Carnie, who are members of the singing trio Wilson Phillips; Al Jardine's boys Adam and Matt; Mike Love's kids Ambha and Christian, and late drummer Dennis Wilson's sons Justyn and Carl B.

Rob Bonfiglio, who is married to Carnie Wilson, and longtime Beach Boys associate Billy Hinsche are also part of the 10-piece group, which calls itself "the next chapter in the story of America's Band," and the kids have already gained the approval of their dads - the cover band has been opening for the "Wouldn't It Be Nice" hitmakers on their current 50th anniversary tour.

Carnie Wilson insists the act is not a gimmick and claims they were all brought together by their love of the Beach Boys' music.

She tells Californian publication the Ventura County Star, "It's gruelling and it's tedious but it's worth it because we're not just getting up there because we're 'the children of...' We're celebrating these songs that we love."

And Carnie has high hopes for California Saga's future: "We are hoping to go places with the sound and the material - offering people something that has never been offered... (and) maybe even (writing) an original or two."

The Beach Boys' offspring aren't alone in forming a supergroup - the sons of Beatles icons Paul McCartney, George Harrison and John Lennon have also spoken of plans to unite to make music, although Ringo Starr's boys have turned down the invitation.
