Another case of a dog left in a hot car, this time in Northampton. Animal control officers removed an animal left in a parked vehicle near Hancock and Hawley Streets Tuesday afternoon in 90-plus degree temperatures. Police say when the black lab was removed, the dog had trouble standing. They say the owner had left a note on the truck instructing anyone who was concerned about the dog's welfare to call a phone number before contacting authorities. But police say a call to the number wasn't answered. The owner finally called police several hours later, saying he had been attending a class. The owner was fined $100. Apparently this wasn't an isolated case. Northampton Police Captain Scott Savino tells the Gazette, police are getting numerous calls every day this Summer about animals being left alone in cars.
