Local Farm Owners Cited for Poor Worker Housing Conditions



The owners of a Western Mass. bean sprout farm are in hot water again.  This time, for allegedly housing workers in substandard conditions.  Camps that were housing 22 farm workers and their families in Whately and Deerfield have been condemned and they've been forced to find new places to live.  Authorities tell the Recorder, workers are now living in a local hotel.  The state Public Health Department is suing members of the Chang family for failing to meet sanitary and housing codes.  Chang and Son Enterprises was accused two months ago by the Department of Labor, of violating minimum wage and overtime laws.
