Pete Townshend: 'I was a late starter sexually'

Rocker Pete Townshend was a late bloomer in love, and reveals he lost his virginity while high on marijuana.

The Who star insists his first time having sex was "kind of fabulous" because he was in a haze after getting high.

He tells Britain's The Sun, "I started using marijuana at college when I was about 18. I was a late starter sexually and this Irish girl gave me a joint. I got stoned and half an hour later I had my first sexual experience.

"It was the shortest orgasm in history but it was kind of fabulous as well because I was stoned."

The guitarist later discovered that the drug enhanced his musical experiences and helped him get in touch with his spiritual side.

He adds, "Smoking marijuana also makes the experience of listening to music very different but I believe that once you've learnt how to do it, you don't really need the marijuana.

"It's about surrendering yourself to a different state, a bit like learning to meditate. You can do it anywhere and you don't need to sit cross-legged in an ashram." (PAW/WNTSU/LR)
