Amherst Nixes Later Start Time Plan

Amherst School Superintendent Maria Geryk tells WHMP news she still believes in a later start time for grades 7 through 12, but she understands the Regional School Committee's decision last night not to change the schedule.  The decision means the middle and high school students will not start their classes 75 minutes later.  Much of the concern that led to the negative 7 to 2 vote was about how the later start time would affect student athlete sports schedules.  The vote comes after two years of studying various options.  Northampton is set to vote soonon the same issue.
