Hurricane Sandy News Update



Emergency storm centers are now open in Northampton and Greenfield.  Northampton Mayor David Narkewicz says that's the place to call for emergency updates in the city throughout the storm.  The numbers to call are:  587-1160 or 587-1161.  A regional Red Cross emergency shelter is open at Smith Voke in NOrthampton.  Northampton, Easthampton and Greenfield municipal offices are all closed.  

The town of Shelburne has declared a state of emergency and has closed Colrain Brook Road to Greenfield. The town of Northfield is the first local community to announce it's postponing trick or treating until November 4th.

The PVTA has canceled all bus service as of 1 p.m.  Flight operations at Bradley Airport also closed at 1 p.m. today.  More than 92 percent of all flights in and out of Logan Airport in Boston have been canceled due to high winds, with more than 900 arrivals and departures affected.  Amtrak has also suspended service in the Northeast.

Power is out to numerous Western Mass. towns including, but not limited to:  New Salem, Amherst, Montague, Ashfield, Chesterfield, Westhampton, Huntington, Cummington and Plainfield.  The outage map for WMECO is here:
