One of Northampton's worst intersections for pedestrians is under scrutiny. Traffic engineers are embarking upon a study of the juncture of Main, State and New South Streets. The perilous crossing is well-used by Smith College students, and by downtown residents trying to walk to the Forbes Library. In related news, a flashing pedestrian beacon will be installed at the New South Street crosswalk that links Pulaski Park with the Old School Commons. Last month a 35 year old man was killed crossing the street there.
