A threatening note found at Northampton High School prompted a lockdown and controlled dismissal under police guard Wednesday afternoon. Police Chief Russell Sienkiewicz is releasing little information, but school did resume Thursday morning with an enhanced police presence. A ninth grade student named John told WHMP news at the scene that he heard someone had written threatening graffiti in a bathroom. Mayor David Narkewicz tells WHMP news police officers would be on site throughout the day Thursday, and the city is working to ensure student safety.
Also in Northampton, someone reported an armed Man in military fatigues near the JFK Middle School Wednesday. It turned out to be a Massachusetts Environmental Police officer responding to an injured hawk. And a bomb threat at the Birchland Park Middle School in East Longmeadow Wednesday turned out to be a hoax. Police believe they've identified a suspect and are researching phone records.
