President Obama will formally nominate veteran Senator John Kerry as Secretary of State.  Secretary of State Hillary Clinton plans to step down next month.  Kerry, a Massachusetts Democrat, is the longtime chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.  Kerry is a decorated Vietnam War veteran, and was the 2004 Democratic presidential nominee.  Kerry lost the election to President George W. Bush.  THe nomination is expected to be announced Friday afternoon.
