Hampshire County Sheriff Patrick Cahillane is receiving an award from the Children’s Trust, a private foundation dedicated to ending child abuse, for his work on the House of Correction’s “Nurturing Fathers Program.” The Children’s Trust’s chief marketing and advancement officer, Stacey Nee said the award is a top honor given out once a year.

Cahillane helped introduce the program to the Hampshire County House of Corrections about 8 years ago,

The program has expanded to include a 13-week program outside the prison walls, too. Twice a week the Nurturing Fathers Program meets at the Northampton Recovery Center to give fathers and their children a safe venue to be together and plan activities together. Cahillane will receive the award early next month at a ceremony in Boston.
