There are three comparisons one can make between the musical South Pacific and the Naval Base, Guantanamo Bay. Number 1, both involve islands, Number 2, both involve the U.S. Military and Number 3, both are created after a significant interaction with warring factions – World War II and September 11th. Guantanamo Bay, also referred to as Gitmo, is in Cuba and the military prison there first opened after the September 11th attacks. While the prison was created to house the worst terrorists, many detainees were not even Al Qaeda fighters, but villagers, turned in by their fellow countrymen, for large ransoms. At one time there were 779 people detained, and the reports of torture and abuse were real. Listen in as Attorney’s Bill Newman and Buz Eisenberg share their own experiences on Guantanamo, where, of their own volition, traveled to give council and represent a handful of detainees.

Miana Hoyt Dawson and Terry Dawson decided to Pause and Pivot in the pandemic when their lives were spinning faster than they would have liked. When the forced pause happened, they decided to make a conscious decision to pause. Miana was in marketing and traveling around the country for work and Terry was an engineer working for a local manufacturer, but they lived on a farm in Williamsburg. With land and some animals, they imagined what life could be if they pivoted into a new way of work and life. Having 3 kids also helped guide their decisions and ultimately, they decided to pause and pivot to the farm that exists now. Join us as we discover the goods they grow hydroponically, by woodworking, baking, and holding events. By showing up for partnerships and support of community Miana and Terry have created a network of collaborators including Olivers Farmstand with whom they have created Season Celebration in September in support of the Northampton Survival Center/Hilltown Food Pantry.
