A major reversal at Smith College following nearly two weeks of protests over its childcare center. The college now says Fort Hill in Northampton will remain open through at least the summer of 2029, instead of closing next June. The original announcement sparked widespread criticism and a rally attended by more than 250 people. College officials will now explore long-term options, with a decision expected by December 2027.
