Amherst may ask the state for more control over accessory dwelling units as dozens move through development. Planning Board members say many are being built for student housing and want to revisit rules such as owner-occupancy requirements. State law currently bars communities from requiring an owner to live in either the main home or the ADU. Town planners are also looking at zoning more land near UMass for student housing.
