Money set aside for major construction projects is paying off for Amherst. The town earned more than $3 million in investment income last fiscal year, six times what officials had expected. That helped push total revenue nearly $3.2 million above projections. The extra money could go toward roads and sidewalks, although officials warn those unusually high investment earnings may not last.
