Amherst is officially handing two former school properties back to the town. The School Committee voted to relinquish Wildwood School on Strong Street as of September 1st, and also turn over the South Amherst school campus. Wildwood will no longer be used as a K-through-6 school once the new Amethyst Brook School opens in late August. Town officials have budgeted money for community planning around Wildwood’s future, while South Amherst has already been eyed for possible housing. The move also helps the district avoid added upkeep and utility costs.
