Hawley officials are fighting a Verizon proposal to phase out traditional copper landlines. The Selectboard voted unanimously to urge federal regulators to reject the plan, citing unreliable cell service and frequent power outages in the hilltowns. Verizon wants to transition customers to newer phone technology beginning November 30th, but says service won’t be disconnected where no suitable alternative is available.
