Northampton officials are looking at what more the city can do to protect immigrant residents as concerns grow over ICE activity. A City Council committee held a panel this week with local immigrant justice groups, who said legal help, community alerts, and support networks are in high demand. Speakers also urged the city to look at policing practices that could lead to detention or deportation. Northampton Police say they follow state law, the city’s Safe City Ordinance, and existing policies on federal immigration enforcement.
